Arizona Men's Basketball Signs Chukwuma Charles Okwandu to National Letter-of-Intent

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball coach Lute Olsonannounced Tuesday that Chukwuma Charles Okwandu has signed a NationalLetter-of-Intent to attend the school and play basketball. Okwandu willreport to the school in the fall of 2004.
Okwandu, a 7-foot-2, 210-pound center from Lagos, Nigeria, earned all-starhonors at the Top 100 Africa Camp, which is run by the National BasketballAssociation. He attended Kings High School in Lagos. Okwandu will redshirtduring the 2004-05 season.
'Chukwuma is very long and athletic player who we feel will be helpedimmensely with a redshirt season to grow and develop,' said Olson. 'He hasa great deal of potential.'
Arizona's recruiting class of 2004 also includes Daniel Dillon, JawannMcClellan, Mohamed Tangara and Jesus Verdejo. The Wildcats finished 2003-04with a 20-10 record (11-7 Pac-10) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament forthe 20th consecutive season. Currently, the Wildcats are scheduled toreturn nine of 12 letterwinners in 2004-05.
