Junior Dianne Hollands Advances to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships

Athens, Ga. - Junior Dianne Hollands won her round of 32 match and will compete in the round of 16 on May 26. Hollands also teamed up with junior Maja Mlakar to compete in round of 32 doubles action. Despite a No. 4 seed in the tournament, the duo did not advance to tomorrow's round of 16 action.
No. 11-ranked Hollands took on Tulsa's No. 51-ranked Daniela Muscolino. Hollands edged Muscolino in the first set, and then lost the second set. Hollands came back strong in the third set to win the match, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. This improved her record to 31-11 on the season. The junior from Dunedin, New Zealand will next take on No. 3-ranked Cristelle Grier of Northwestern. The two faced each other in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on November 7, 2003. Grier defeated Hollands in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. The match will take place on Wednesday, May 26.
After completing her three set singles match, Hollands then competed in doubles action with partner Maja Mlakar. The No. 5-ranked duo stayed in the match in the first set until the very end when they lost the set, 7-6. The next set was not as close as New Mexico's duo of Maja Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski easily won the set, 6-0.
Competition at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia will resume tomorrow morning.
