Biasella Falls In First Round of NCAAs

May 26, 2004

TULSA, Okla. - Adriano Biasella, USC's only competitor in the men's tennis NCAA Individual Championships, dropped his opening round singles match on Wednesday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis center in Tulsa.

Biasella, ranked 19th in the final regular season ITA poll, dropped a close two-set match to 23rd-ranked Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion, 7-6, 7-6.

Despite the loss, a final top 20 ranking for Biasella could earn him All-America honors for the season. Ranked 18th in the final regular season poll, Drew Hoskins and Daniel Langre are also eligible for All-America honors in doubles. Final rankings and a list of honorees will be announced following the completion of the NCAA Individual Championships.

The loss officially completes the 2004 season for the Trojans who advanced to the NCAA Semifinals, before falling to eventual national champion Baylor.
