Mason Earns District Academic Honor

University of Arizona junior swimmer Emily Mason, a journalism majaor from Phoenix, Ariz., was named to the 2004 Academic All-District VIII team today, as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Mason won the 400-meter freestyle event in the NCAA Championships in March, with an NCAA-record time of 4:01:58, the second fastest time in the world.
She also set a school record in the 200 free at the meet and was part of the UA's school record 800 free relay team that finished third in the NCAAs. She also qualified for the finals at the national meet in the 200-meter butterfly, finishing fifth, and finished third in the 400-meter individual medley with another school-record time.
Arizona's women finished third in the NCAA Championships.
Mason carries a 3.26 grade point average and is a UA athletics department Academic Champion award winner.
