2004 Women's College World Series: UCLA 2, LSU 0

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Keira Goerl threw a four-hitter and UCLA beat LSU 2-0 Friday in a winner's bracket game at the NCAA Women's College World Series.

Steph Ramos and Jodie Lesaspi had RBI singles in the first inning against Kristin Schmidt (36-6).

Goerl (29-7), who threw a no-hitter in the championship game last year, was perfect through three innings before LaDonia Hughes reached on a bunt single to lead off the fourth.

LSU (55-11) threatened in the sixth when Camille Harris led off with a single and Hughes followed with a double. But Goerl struck out Lauren Castle and Leslie Klein and got Julie Wiese to ground out to get out of the inning.

The double-elimination tournament continues through Monday.

2004 Women's College World Series: Cal 2, Oklahoma 1 (8 innings)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Vicky Galindo scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night and California beat Oklahoma 2-1 to advance to play defending champ UCLA for a berth in the NCAA Women's College World Series.

Galindo drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a bunt single by Lindsay James. Both runners advanced when Haley Woods reached on a fielding error by Oklahoma third baseman Norrelle Dickson, and Galindo scored when Sooners center fielder Kristin Vesely made a wild throw after catching a shallow fly ball by Kaleo Eldrege.

Galindo had retreated to third base on Eldredge's fly, but scored when Vesely's throw went over the head of second baseman April Valdez and ended up down the first-base line.

Cal (52-11) led 1-0 on a homer by Galindo in the third inning, but gave the lead away in the fifth when catcher Woods tried to pick off Oklahoma pinch-runner Jade Prather at second but no one was covering. Woods' throw went into center field, allowing Vesely to score from third.

LSU (55-11) threatened in the sixth when Camille Harris led off with a single and Hughes followed with a double. But Goerl struck out Lauren Castle and Leslie Klein and got Julie Wiese to ground out to get out of the inning.

LSU will play the winner of a loser's bracket game between Washington (40-18) and Florida State (61-11), while Oklahoma (45-21-1) awaits either Michigan (54-12) or Stanford (47-18).
