Coach Sherri Murrell's May 28 Italy Diary
Coach Sherri Murrell
A 6 a.m. wake-up call started our final morning in Italy. Today, we begin our journey home to Pullman.
This tour far exceeded my expectations. The sites, people, food and competition were all great.
Every night was like Christmas Eve to me. The excitement and anticipation of unwrapping Italy's beauty kept me awake. This country bleeds character and history through its artwork and architecture.
I'm in love with many of the places we visited but Lake Como is by far my favorite. It was much quieter than Rome, Florence and Venice. I took a team ride to the top of a mountain and the view of the lake was breathtaking. The Alps and the historical mansions that outline the lake was something I have never seen before.
These special moments can sum up my trip.
The moment when my eyes began to tear as I sat in the Duomo of Milan looking up at one of the nails positioned and kept there from Christ's crucifixion.
The next moment was when the team fought hard in the fourth quarter of our second game to win. To see the smiles on their faces made me a very happy and proud coach.
The final moment was on our last night. I sat at our dinner table and watched the team, coaches and boosters feast on food, drinks and conversation. I am so blessed to have been a part of this tour and to enjoy it with such wonderful people.
I want to thank all who made this trip possible. You make me proud to be a Coug. This trip has done so much for all of us on the court and off. Gratzie!
I also want to thank Basketball Travelers for their exceptional service. Our chaperone, Brooke Ingalls, did an incredible job. I would recommend them to any team wanting great service with wonderful people.
Go Cougs! Ciao!
