Men's Golf Sixth After Day One Of NCAA Championships

The No. 11 USC men's golf team got off to a good start at the 2004 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, shooting a four-over-par 284 on Tuesday to move into sixth after the first of four rounds on The Cascades Golf Course.

USC is five strokes behind current leader California, which shot 279. BYU is second (280), TCU is third (281), and Auburn and Kentucky are fourth (283).

Junior Ben Hayes and freshman Joshua Wooding lead the Trojans after shooting 69 to tie for ninth. They are four strokes back of individual leader Jeff Hood of Cal (65).

Also for USC, sophomore Taylor Wood is tied for 30th (71), senior Scott Oxandaboure is tied for 108th (75) and junior Nico Bollini is tied for 150th (80).

The second round begins Wednesday at 7 a.m. Teams that teed off in the morning during the first round will tee off in the afternoon and vice versa. The cut will be after the third round; with the top 15 teams making it to the final round.
