Golden Bears and Alumni At U.S. Open

STANFORD, Calif. - Several current and former Bears spent Memorial Day competing at the prestigious Payton Jordan U.S. Open Track & Field Meet held at Stanford University.

Senior Sheni Russell and junior Rhuben Williams followed NCAA Regional top 5 performances earlier in the weekend with top 10 performances at the U.S. Open. Russell came in seventh with a discus throw of 169-11 (51.79m) while Williams claimed sixth in the shot put at 63-01.25 (19.23m).

'Rhuben showed that he is taking the steps toward being a world-class shot-putter,' California throws coach Jennifer Joyce said.

Chloe Jarvis, who is currently redshirting but will be a senior next year, came in 10th in the 'Olympic Development' 800-meter run, 2:10.00.

Alum Grace Upshaw won the women's long jump with a jump of 22-01.50 (6.74m). Other alums fared well, as well. Bolota Asmerom earned the Olympic Trials 'A' Standard with his time of 13:31.26 in the 5000-meter run. Tim Bogdanof finished ninth in the 110-meter hurdles, 13.74. Elissa Riedy was third in the 1500-meter 'Olympic Development' category at 4:21.82. Travis Nutter was fourth in the hammer throw, 230-02 (70.16m).
