CAMDEN, N.J.- - The No. 8 Oregon State men's varsity eight placed fifth in the first semifinal race Friday to advance to the Petite Final at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships on the Cooper River.
The Beavers posted a time of 6:07.89 and will battle for places 7-12 in the Petite Final.
The varsity eight will be up against some tough competition Saturday, including No. 9 Cornell and No. 14 Rutgers, both teams Oregon State defeated in Brunswick, N.J. one month ago. The other teams in the Petite Final include No. 5 Northeastern, No. 7 Wisconsin, and No. 12 Yale.
The freshman eight won the third semifinal by just under five seconds with a time of 6:08.5 and will compete in the third level final on Saturday against Michigan, St. Joe's, Georgetown, Hobart, and rival Washington. The race will decide places 13-18.
OSU's second varsity eight, after failing to qualify for Friday's semifinal races, will compete in the third level final on Saturday against Ithaca, Rutgers, Brown, Marist, and MIT.
