Stanford Lightweight Women's Crew Finishes Eighth At IRA National Championships

The Stanford Lightweight Women's Crew team concluded another strong seasonwith a weekend of close racing at the Intercollegiate Rowing AssociationNational Championships in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Cardinal Varsity eightstarted off the regatta with a second place finish in the heats. In therepechage, Stanford came in third to Georgetown and the University of RohdeIsland, narrowly missing entry into the grand finals. And in the final raceof the weekend, Stanford closed a gap of a boatlength down on Purdue toonly three seats with a move that started with 750 meters to go andextended to the finish line. Third year rower Kristina Petersoncommented, 'racing at the IRA's was Stanford Lightweight Crew in our peakperformance. Although we lost a couple of close races, our ability to makemoves and gain on other crews well into the second half of the race provedour determination and our endurance. We're getting faster, and we aren'tlosing any seniors, so I'm looking forward to how speedy we're going to benext year.'
