Chris Nallen Named PING First Team All-America

June 7, 2004

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golfer Chris Nallen earned PING first team All-America honors following his performance at the 2004 NCAA Championships in an announcement made by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Nallen, a senior from Hackettstown, N.J., was one of 10 players selected to the 2004 PING All-America first team. It marked the fourth time that he has earned All-America honors from the GCAA, including first-team accolades in both 2003 and 2004. Nallen was joined on the first team by Matt Every (Florida), Bill Haas (Wake Forest), Jason Hartwick (Texas), John Holmes (Kentucky), Brock Mackenzie (Washington), Ryan Moore (UNLV), Chris Stroud (Lamar), Peter Tomasulo (California) and Camilo Villegas (Florida).

In 15 appearances this season, Nallen posted a 69.79 stroke average, which is the lowest single-season average in school history. He won a school-record four tournaments in 2003-04 and has five additional top-10 finishes. Thirty-three of his 43 rounds played this season were at par or better, including a school-record 18-under-par 195 total in winning the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate on Feb. 3.

Nallen captured individual medalist honors six times in his career (2000-04), a figure that is tied for second place on the UA career victories list. In 167 career rounds played, Nallen carded a 71.19 stroke average, which is also a school record. He is the 14th Wildcat golfer to earn first team All-America honors since 1967 and just the fourth to earn multiple first-team accolades.

Sixth-ranked Arizona closed the 2003-04 season with a third-place finish at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, June 1-4, at The Homestead Resort's Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Va.
