Hoffman Contributes To Fever Victory
June 7, 2004
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Former USC women's basketball standout Ebony Hoffman scored her first professional points as she helped lead the WNBA's Indiana Fever (3-2) to a 70-57 victory over the Charlotte Sting on Saturday, June 5. Hoffman has earned a starting role at power forward in the three of the first four games this season and made her first offensive contribution on Saturday.
The Fever avenged an earlier loss at Charlotte by handing the Sting its third straight defeat. It was the second straight win for the Fever, which used a 15-0 run over four minutes early in the first half to take a commanding lead. Charlotte rallied to cut what had been a 17-point Fever lead to just six points by halftime, but Indiana was able to fend off the Sting for the remainder of the game.
The rookie Hoffman was credited with sparking the Fever's 15-0 run, beginning with a layup with 17:57 left in the first half. Hoffman scored all six of her points during the run, which ended with Tamika Catchings' 3-pointer from the corner with 14:06 remaining in the half. Catchings' 3-pointer put the Fever ahead 23-8 and Indiana led the rest of the way. Her six points and six rebounds were both career-highs.
