A strong contingent of 26 Stanford student-athletes (14 women, 12 men) will compete at the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin (June 9-12) ... This will be the seventh time that the University of Texas has hosted the NCAA Championships ... The last time was in 1992 ... That year, Stanford's Chryste Gaines won the NCAA title in the 100 meters while Jackie Edwards captured the long jump crown ... Gaines' and Edwards' first place wins helped propel the Stanford women to a fourth place finish ... Last year, the Stanford men's team finished seventh while the Cardinal women placed ninth ... Undine Becker, Junior, San Jose, Ca (long jump/triple jump)
Gained entry to the NCAA's with a long jump effort of 20-4 1/2 (6.21m) and 41-0 1/2 (12.51m) in the triple jump ... Becker's effort in the long jump was performed against California (5/1/04) while the triple jump effort was accomplished at the Pac-10 Championships (5/15/04) ... Finished second in the long jump (20-1 3/4, 6.14m) and fourth in the triple jump (41-0 1/2, 12.51m) at the Pac-10 Championships (5/14/04, 5/15/04) ... Became the Pac-10's second all-time leading shot put performer with a career-best and school record throw of 59-6 1/4 (18.15m) at the Cardinal Invitational (4/30/04) ... In six throws at the Cardinal Invitational, she set the previous school record four times ... Alicia Craig, Sophomore, Gillette, Wy (10,000 meters)
A seven-time All-American ... The defending NCAA champion in the 10,000 meters as a freshman ... During the 2004 season, running in only her third 10,000 meters ever, Alicia set the collegiate record, Pac-10 record and school record in the 10,000 meters at the Cardinal Invitational (4/30/04) with a time of 32:19.97, besting the previous collegiate record of 32:22.97 by Carol Zajac of Villanova in 1992 ... The Pac-10 record had been 32:31.65 by Arizona's Amy Skieresz in 1997 ... Alicia also beat her previous career-best of 32:40.03, which she set in winning the 10,000 meter title at the NCAA's last year ... A star of the future in the sprints for Stanford ... Qualified in both the 100 meters (11.54) and 200 meters (23.64) at the NCAA's but will concentrate solely on the 100 meters ... Finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Pac-10 (11.60, 5/14/04) and NCAA West Regional Championships (11.65, 5/29/04) in the 100 meters ... Placed fifth in the 200 meters at both the conference and regional meets ...
