Women's Volleyball Concludes Spring Season at Open Nationals
June 9, 2004
UCLA's women's volleyball team concluded its spring practice over Memorial Day weekend with a trip to the Open Nationals tournament in Atlanta, GA. The squad was split into two groups with Westwood Gold finishing third in the tournament while Westwood Blue, a team comprised primarily of the 2003 freshman class, finished seventh.
'The entire trip was a success and everyone played well,' said UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski. 'We split into two teams in order to give everyone the maximum amount of playing time.'
That certainly happened, as the Blue team, set by redshirt freshman Tammy Jackson, played seven matches over the four-day tournament, while the Gold team, set by Krystal McFarland, playing three matches each day for the entire four-day event with just even players.
Two players who will be seniors for the 2004 collegiate season, Krystal McFarland and Chrissie Zartman, were named to the All-Tournament team, with Zartman earning first-team honors and McFarland named to the second team.
UCLA is scheduled to begin its 2004 season on September 1, at Cal State Northridge.
