Three Players Taken In 2004 Major League Baseball Draft

LOS ANGELES -- Three USC players were selected in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft, including junior first baseman Joey Metropoulos. Metropoulos was the highest pick, selected in the ninth round by the Toronto Blue Jays.
This season, Metropoulos batted .286 with nine home runs and 32 RBI.
Senior infielder Michael Moon was selected in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres while junior pitcher Matt Cassel was a 36th-round pick by the Oakland Athletics. Moon batted .268 with seven home runs and 36 RBI while Cassel saw limited action, going 0-1 with a 9.35 ERA in 8 2/3 innings of work.
Since its inception in 1965, Trojan players have been selected 263 times with 89 players going on to play in the major leagues.
