UCLA Bruins Girls Basketball Camps Will Begin June 21
June 14, 2004
Bruin head coach Kathy Olivier and the UCLA women's basketball team will hold summer camps for girls on the UCLA campus. Applications are still being accepted for the three camps - Day Camp #1 (June 21-24), Day Camp #2 (July 5-8) and Overnight Camp (July 31-August 3).
The UCLA Bruins Girls Basketball Camp is designed to provide campers of all ability levels a rewarding and enjoyable basketball experience. The camp staff features UCLA coaches as well as current and former UCLA players. Fundamental instruction, individual competition and team competition will be part of the camp's activities.
The Day Camp focuses on teaching the fundamental skills and introducing basic game strategy. This is an outstanding camp for those just learning the game and for those already playing on teams. This camp is open to girls ages 6-14 and runs from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The Overnight Camp is designed for players who are becoming serious about basketball and developing their skills, both individually and within a team environment. Sessions offer an intense, specialized basketball instruction with an emphasis on fundamentals. This camp is open to girls ages 9-18.
The camps are held at UCLA's legendary Pauley Pavilion. Some sessions are also held on various outdoor courts throughout the campus. Overnight campers are housed in residence halls, and meals are served in the dining halls.
'I always enjoy summer camps at UCLA,' said Olivier. ' It's very exciting to see the up and coming young talent play in Pauley Pavilion for the first time. Past and present players do a fantastic job coaching the campers. It's a great learning experience for the campers to be around such wonderful role models on such a beautiful campus. They truly get a feel of what life is about as a UCLA women's basketball player.'
