Lincecum Named National Freshman Of The Year

SEATTLE - University of Washington pitcher Tim Lincecum added to his list of honors when he wasnamed one of three National Freshmen of the Year by Collegiate Baseball magazine lastweek.

Lincecum, a 5-foot-11 right-hander from Renton's Liberty High, shared the honor withUC Irvine reliever Blair Erickson, who led the nation in saves, and Alabama lefty WadeLeBlanc.

The announcement was made as part of Collegiate Baseball's Louisville Slugger FreshmanAll-America team selections.

Lincecum, who will participate in the USA Baseball National Team Trials later this month,was named the Pac-10's Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year after finishing theseason with a 10-3 record and a 3.53 earned run average. He also struck out a schoolrecord 161 batters in only 112.1 innings and finished the year second in the nation instrikeouts.
