Vanessa Iapala To Compete On USA Softball Schutt Elite Team

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oregon State sophomore first baseman Vanessa Iapala has been named a member of the USA Schutt Elite Team as was announced Friday by USA Softball. Oregon State head coach Kirk Walker, an assistant coach for the Elite Team, and Iapala, will compete from July 3-11 at the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia and July 14-18 at the Champions Cup in Irvine, CA.
A native of San Diego, CA, Iapala led the Beavers with a .333 batting average, 71 hits, 46 RBI, and 14 doubles during the 2004 season. She became just the third player in Oregon State history to garner All-America status after earning second team recognition last month. Iapala was also a first team All-Pacific Region pick and a second team All-Pacific-10 Conference selection.
As a sophomore, Iapala already ranks in the Oregon State career Top 10 in three different batting categories (RBI, doubles, home runs).
Twelve of the 16 players on the USA Schutt Elite Team roster are from Pac-10 schools.
