Chrissie Zartman Finishes Fourth at World University Beach Volleyball Championship

UCLA senior libero Chrissie Zartman and long-time beach volleyball partner Tracy Lindquist earned a fourth place finish at the 2004 FISU World University Beach Volleyball Championship this past week in Songkhla Province, Thailand.
After advancing to the championship bracket as the tournament's third overall seed following pool play, the Zartman/Lindquist pair defeated the Japanese Team of Yui/Shimakaua by a score of 21-14, 21-13. That victory advanced the American pair to the tournament's winners bracket semifinal, where they fell to the Czech Republic team of Klapalova/Petrova 21-14, 21-15.
In a must-win situation in the consolation bracket of the tournament , Zartman/Lindquist faced and defeated the French #2 team of Etienne/Giaoui 21-23, 21-17, 15-11. That victory put the American pair into the Medal Round, where they would face China #1 in Sunday's action.
The Chinese team of Zhang/Zhang played flawless volleyball in their best match of the tournament to defeat the Zartman/Lindquist pair 21-10, 21-10 before falling to the Czech Republic Klapalova/Petrova team in the gold medal match. Meanwhile, Zartman/Lindquist went on to finish fourth in the tournament after falling to Thailand's Jarunee/Yupa team by scores of 21-17-21-15.
Zartman will be a senior libero for the 2004 Bruins, who are scheduled to begin their fall schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Cal State Northridge.
