Two Bruins Head to USATF Junior Championships

The U.S. Junior Track & Field Championships will take place this Thursday through Sunday, June 24-27. The championships will be held at the Frank G. Anderson Track & Field Complex on the campus of Texas A&M University, the site of the 2004 NCAA Midwest Regional. Hurdler Brandon Johnson and thrower Greg Garza, who redshirted this season, will compete at this year's championship meet.
As a true freshman, Johnson led the Bruins at the Pac-10 and West Region Championships. At the Pac-10 Championships, he won the 400m hurdles in a personal best 48.85. Two weeks later, he won the West Regional title in 49.64. Johnson was also a key member of the Bruins' 1600m relay. At the NCAA Championships, Johnson ran the lead-off leg of UCLA's All-American relay, which finished seventh (3:06.63).
Garza redshirted the 2004 season. His personal bests are 57-8 (shot put) and 191-0 (discus).
