UCLA Players Advance to Match Play

UCLA men's and women's golfers advanced to match play in their respective tournaments Wednesday on opposite coasts.
At the 28th Annual U.S. Women's Amateur Publinks, hosted by the Golden HorseshoeGolf Club in Williamsburg, VA, UCLA letterwinners Hannah Jun and Melissa Martin advanced to the first round of match play, while teammate Yvonne Choe failed to make the 64-player draw.
At Pebble Beach Golf Links near Monterey, CA, UCLA freshman Chris Heintz earned a spot in the 32-player draw at the 93rd California State Amateur Championships.
Martin fired a two-under par round of 70 Wednesday and tied for 21st place at 145 (+1), while Jun posted a 74 and tied for 33rd at three-over 147.
On Thursday, Jun meets Muyumi Motoyama of Littleton, CO at 9:42 EDT and Martin battles Leigh Klasse of St. Anthony, MN at 11:18.
Heintz climbed the leaderboard Wednesday with a two-under par 70 and tied for 12th place at 217. He meets 23 year-old Scott Gordon of Fair Oaks, CA on the first tee at Pebble Beach on Thursday.
