June 29, 2004

WEST LINN, Ore. - -

Oregon State men's golfer Cameron MacKenzie charged back from seven strokes down with 10 holes to play in his Oregon Amatuer championship match with Bend's Chandler Cocco on Saturday to force a playoff before a double bogey on the 37th hole ended his run at the title.

MacKenzie, one of two seniors on next year's OSU squad, won five matches en route to the championship match at the par-72 Oregon Golf Club and finished second overall.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, native carded six birdies over his final 10 holes of regulation play.

OSU's Mitch Gillis advanced to the second round, and fellow Beaver Brad Simpson fell in the first.
