Lewis and Vandenberg Solid in 100m Butterfly Semifinals

Sophomore Kim Vandenberg and Senior Kristen Lewis swam solid races on Wednesday eveninng at the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, but failed to advanced to the finals in the 100m butterfly race.

Both Vandenberg and Lewis moved up a place from the preliminary finals with Vandenberg finishing 11th, and Lewis 15th. Vandenberg swam a lifetime best of 1:00.35 and Lewis finished with a time of 1:01.35.

UCLA alumnus Bethany Goodwin, also swimming in the 100m butterfly semifinals, finished 12th with a time of 1:00.46 and did not advance to the finals

Three Bruins will hit the water on Thursday with the hopes of moving on to the semifinals in their races. Senior Naoko Watanabe will compete in the 100m backstroke, while freshman Jane Imagane and Senior Jackie Lobdell will compete in the 400m freestyle.
