Three Huskies in Hunt at Sahalee Players Championship

Seattle - A trio of golfers with Husky ties are in the top 10 at the midway point of the 2004 Sahalee Players Championship. Junior Ryan Lepp fired a second-round 70 to move up to a tie for fifth with a 36-hole total of 3-under 141. He trails UNLV senior Ryan Moore by four strokes.

Husky sophomore Erik Olson, the Seattle Amateur champion, is in seventh place at 2-under 142. Dan Potter, who just ended his Washington career, is 10th at even par 144. Sophomore Alex Prugh is 23rd at 7-over 151.

The third round of the tournament takes place Friday at Sahalee Country Club. The fianl round will be contested Saturday.

The 11th Sahalee Players Championship, the first leg of amateur golf's Western Swing that also includes the 103rd Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship. The field will be cut down to the lowest 20 scorers for 54 holes at the completion of play Friday.

Mackenzie Makes U.S. Pro Debut
Former Husky All-American is playing is first professional event in the United States this week. Mackenzie started his pro career in Japan at the Mizuno Open earlier this month. Mackenzie shot 3-over 74 during Thursday's first round of play at the John Deere Classic held at the TPC at Deere Run in East Moline, Ill.

Mackenzie got off to a fast start, carding four birdies on his front nine to make the turn at 4-under 31. He posted back-to-back pars on 10 and 11 before carding a 7 on the par-3 12th hole. He wound up shooting 7-over 73 on the back nine.
