Medina Qualifies for Semi-Finals at U.S. Olympic Trials

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Junior Lauren Medina took a step toward Athens this morning, qualifying for the semi-final of the women's 200-meter freestyle. Medina, a member of Cal's NCAA Champion 800-meter freestyle relay team, finished seventh in the 200-meter freestyle preliminary with a time of 2:01.84, over a second faster than her seed time.

Teammates Ashley Chandler and Erin Reilly competed as well. Chandler, a sophomore, finished 48th at 2:05.22 and Reilly, a freshman, placed 50th in 2:05.55

In the preliminaries of the women's 200-meter individual medley preliminaries, Cal junior Amy Ng finished 51st, touching the wall in 2:23.33.

NBC will carry a tape-delayed broadcast of the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials tonight from 8-9 p.m.
