Sabrina Kolker And Samantha Magee To Compete In Olympic Games

July 12, 2004

Sabrina Kolker '03 and Samantha Magee '06 were each named to the women's eight that will compete in Athens at the Olympic Games next month. Once teammates at Stanford the two will be competing against one another as Kolker will represent Canada and Magee the United States.

While on the Farm, Kolker received All-American awards in both 2002 and 2003. Kolker began training full-time with the Canadian team after graduation from Stanford last spring. Kolker competed at the 2003 World Championships in Milan, Italy in the women's four without coxswain placing fourth. Kolker earned a seat in the eight and represented Canada in recent World Cup racing.

After making the 2003 U.S. National team in the women's eight, Samantha Magee spent this past season away from Stanford training with the U.S. National team. After a successful World Cup performance in June, Magee was again named to the U.S. Women's eight. The U.S. eight won both World Cup competitions that they competed in placing them as strong Olympic medal contenders.

Kolker and Magee led the Cardinal to a #1 ranking in the women's eight in 2003 and an NCAA bronze finish. They also led the Cardinal to its first ever Pac-10 Championship in 2003.
