Stanford Wrestling Schedule Announced

July 17, 2004

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford University wrestling head coach Steve Buddie has announced the 2004-05 Cardinal wrestling schedule. Stanford's 2004-05 schedule features five home event dates, five tournaments, and a total of fifteen dual meets throughout the season. Coach Buddie is extremely excited about the addition of several duals that will very much test the squad against some of the nation's top teams including Michigan and Iowa State. 'We have a team that demands this kind of schedule,' noted Coach Buddie. 'To be the best, you have to compete against the best, and I feel that with this schedule, we will truly test ourselves, better preparing the team for its quest to qualify ten wrestlers to the NCAA tournament.'

Stanford will kick-off its 2004-05 regular season by competing in the Central Missouri Open on November 14th in Warrensburg, MO. The squad will face only Cal State Fullerton and San Francisco State in dual meets in the Fall before heading to the Reno Tournament of Champions just prior to its brief winter break.

After their traditional trip to the prestigious Midlands Invitational over the holidays, Stanford returns to Texas for the Lone Star Duals where it will face off against formidable opponents Air Force, Harvard, and Michigan. One other notable addition to the schedule this season is Stanford's January trip to Ames, Iowa to take on the Cyclones of Iowa State, as well as Lock Haven University in a double dual.

With heavy travel in January, Stanford returns home for its final stretch in February with four straight home duals against Fresno State, Arizona State, Cal Poly, and UC Davis. Buddie noted that 'Our dual schedule is not extremely fan friendly with the bulk of our home duals coming virtually all in a two-week period, but it will be very beneficial to the team as they prepare for the conference tournament.'

Stanford will attempt to build upon its five NCAA qualifiers in 03-04 by way of this year's Pac-10 Championships which will be held this year at Cal Poly on February 27-28. Here is a glance at Stanford's complete 2004-05 schedule:
