Dustin Pedroia Goes 4-for-4 In Professional Debut

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Former Arizona State All-American shortstop Dustin Pedroia went 4-for-4 with a walk and run scored in his professional debut Monday night with the Augusta GreenJackets in the Single-A South Atlantic League.

Drafted in the second round by the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft, Pedroia made his pro debut nearly a week after signing with the Red Sox. Pedroia (Woodland, Calif.) had four singles and scored a run while batting in the No. 2 position in leading the GreenJackets to a 6-4 victory over Asheville.

Pedroia hit .393 (96-for-244) with 24 doubles, nine home runs and 49 RBI while being named a consensus All-American in 2004. He ended his ASU career ranked seventh in the record books with a .384 batting average (298-for-777) with 71 doubles, 14 home runs and 146 RBI. He played and started all 185 games of his ASU career and became only the fourth player in ASU history to earn first-team All-Pac-10 honors in three straight years. Pedroia was one of five finalists for the 2004 Golden Spikes Award.
