Janine Strack and Amanda Blong Advance to Synchronized Final

July 21, 2004

On Tuesday, Senior Captain Janine Strack and Junior Amanda Blong finished fifth in the Women's Three Meter Synchronized Diving preliminaries at the US Senior National Championships, being held in Mission Viejo, CA. The duo advance to the final with their first ever top-six finish in the event.

'I am very proud of both of these athletes. It just shows that months of hard work and dedication will pay off at the right time, if given the opportunity,' Head Diving Coach Tom Stebbins said.

Janine and Amanda edged out a tough field mostly on the strength of their first three rounds. The fourth round was a little shaky, but proved to be that way for most of the contest. They finished up with a pretty good fifth round while the rest of the group seemed to struggle.

'They got off to a great start and may have been as high as fourth after the third round (105b-Janine received 7, 7.5 while Amanda received 7, 7 and the synchro scores averaged 7). I thought they might be in a little bit of trouble when Janine missed her back 2-1/2 but they responded nicely at the end.'

The Synchro Final will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m. Paige Thompson competes in the Women's Three Meter event today at 12:00 p.m.
