Luke John Hanchett, son of Oregon State University men's basketball student-athlete Jim Hanchett and wife Destiny, was born at 5:29 p.m., Friday, July 23 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.
Luke, the couple's first child, weighs seven pounds, 15 ounces and is 21 ï¿½ inches long.
Both Destiny and Luke are in good health.
'This is the greatest experience so far of my life,' Jim Hanchett said. 'The delivery was an extremely powerful and emotional thing. There is nothing like the feeling of being a proud dad with a wonderful wife and child. We feel lucky and blessed.'
'This is wonderful news,' OSU coach Jay John said. 'We're all happy to see Destiny and Luke are healthy. I think Jim and Destiny will be tremendous parents, and we certainly congratulate them.'
Hanchett, also a tight end on the Beaver football team, has already resumed summer workouts.
'I'm used to having lots of different responsibilities,' the 22-year-old said. 'But this is one that takes precedence over everything else.
'My wife is awesome - the only reason I'm successful in anything is because of her. She's the reason I can do everything I do.'
