Ian Kennedy Throws No-Hitter Through 7 1/3 Innings For Team USA

LOS ANGELES -- USC pitcher Ian Kennedy (Huntington Beach/La Quinta HS) had a no-hitter through seven and a third innings Friday as the U.S. National Team defeated Japan, 5-3, at the 2004 FISU II World University Baseball Championship in Tainan, Taiwan. Kennedy was touched up for three runs, but earned the win (3-1) after striking out eight batters and allowing only one walk.

Kennedy did not allow a hit until his 100th pitch when Japan's Yuichi Tabata tripled to center. He went 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits.

Team USA improved to 6-0 in the championship and has won 10 of its last 12 games. The team will play Chinese Taipei in the semifinals as the top seed.
