Former Basketball Standout Philip Ricci Signs With Spain's Ricoh Manresa

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Former Oregon State University basketball standout Philip Ricci has signed a one-year contract with Ricoh Manresa of the Spanish ACB League. Since finishing his career at OSU and earning All-Pac-10 honors as a senior, Ricci spent the fall of 2003 at the Sacramento Kings training camp and competed with the Huntsville (Ala.) Flight of the National Basketball Development League during the 2003-04 season. Ricci said his hopes are for a career in Europe. 'This is more about establishing myself oversees for a career,' Ricci said of signing with Manresa. 'That's the next step for me. I gained a lot of experience playing in the 'D'-League (NBDL), and that opened up a lot of opportunities for this summer and went from there. 'It's been a positive experience,' Ricci added. 'It's been uphill, but things haven't been bad at all though.' Ricci reports for training camp in Manresa on Aug. 15. A 6-foot-7, 253-pound forward, Ricci's 14 points per game ranked 10th among NBDL scoring leaders, and his .526 (247-470) field goal percentage was seventh while starting 44 of 45 games. 'I am proud of Philip,' said OSU coach Jay John, who coached Ricci as a senior. 'He continues to demonstrate his value as a professional player. Within a couple years, Philip will be recognized as one of the best players in Europe.' In 56 career games as a Beaver, Ricci averaged 16.4 points and 7.6 rebounds while earning United States Basketball Writers Association All-Region Nine and team MVP honors as a senior.Ricci arrived at OSU as a junior after transferring from San Joaquin Delta Junior College in 2000-01 and redshirting as a true junior.
