ASU Signs on with Georgia for Home/Home Football Series

Aug. 3, 2004

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University and the University of Georgia have agreed on a home and home football series, beginning in the year 2008, ASU Director of Athletics Gene Smith announced Tuesday.Arizona State will host Georgia on September 20, 2008 at Sun Devil Stadium and the Sun Devils will travel to Athens in 2009 on Saturday, September 26.'This is an intriguing matchup between institutions from major conferences,' says Smith. 'The schools have never met in a football series, thus providing a very interesting game for the fans. This also gives our conference television partners two quality contests as inventory from which to choose. We have pursued schools from the SEC in the past and have had trouble scheduling them. Now, with Georgia and LSU in the fold, this represents a major scheduling breakthrough for our program.'The Sun Devils also play host to LSU in 2008 on September 6, in addition to hosting NAU (Aug. 30) and UNLV (Sept. 13), giving ASU four straight home games to begin the season. ASU travels to LSU on Saturday, September 10, 2005.
