Bruins to Compete at USA Swimming Nationals in Palo Alto; Incoming Freshman Nicolette Teo to Compete in Athens

Thirteen Bruin women will head to Palo Alto August 3-7 to compete in the USA Swimming Nationals with the hopes of garnering individual national titles for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Competing for UCLA will be: seniors-to-be Melissa Miller (200m Butterfly, 1500m Freestyle), Kim Scarborough (200 IM, 400 IM, 200m Backstroke), Lindsey Smart (200 IM); juniors-to-be Kendall Butler (100m Butterfly), Eileen Seissen (100m Breaststroke), and Kim Vandenberg (50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 200m Butterfly), and sophomores-to-be Jeana Fuccillo (200 IM) and Amy Thurman (50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly).

The Bruins will also have three relay teams competing at USA Nationals. They will compete in the 400m Medley Relay, the 400m Freestyle Relay and the 800m Freestyle Relay.

Five Bruins will compete for their club team at the National meet. They are juniors-to-be Krista Daley (Sierra Marlins; 200m Butterfly) and Shellene Catalano (Clovis; 200m Backstroke), and sophomores-to-be Jane Imagane (Industry Hills; 400m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle), Courtney Iversen (Greenwood Tigersharks; 200m Backstroke, 400 IM), Isabel Miesner (Lakeside; 200 IM).

Incoming freshman Erin Ketchum will compete in the 800m and 1500m Freestyle for Mission Viejo.

UCLA already has one Bruin heading to the Athens Olympics in 10 days, Malin Svahnstrom, and now will have two competing for a medal. Incoming freshman Nicolette Teo will represent Singapore in the Olympics. She is competing in her second Olympic Games and will swim in the 100m and 200m Breastrok.
