Buck Caps Solid Summer With Team USA

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Arizona State baseball's rising junior Travis Buck recently completed a successful summer with the USA Baseball National Team by winning a gold medal in the FISU II World University Baseball Championship.
Buck (Richland, Wash.) finished second on the team hitting .412 (28-for-68) with 17 runs scored, two doubles, one triple, two home runs and 14 RBI. He led the team with 14 walks and had a .512 on-base percentage. Buck also recorded six multi-hit games and was a consistent force at the plate recording at least one hit in 19 of 23 games.
During the FISU II World University Baseball Championship in Tainan City, Taiwan, Buck hit .400 (10-for-25) while leading Team USA a perfect 8-0 record. Team USA went 6-0 in pool play and defeated host Chinese Taipei (5-2) and Japan (4-2) to capture the gold medal.
Buck enters his junior year after earning All-Pac-10 honors in 2004. He hit .373 (84-for-225) while leading the team with nine home runs and 58 RBI. His representation in the Red, White and Blue extended a streak that has seen at least one ASU player play for Team USA in each of the past five summers.
