Vandenberg Claims National Title in 200m Butterfly

Junior-to-be Kim Vandenberg won the 200m butterfly at the 2004 USA Nationals in Palo Alto on Wednesday night, picking up UCLA's first individual national championship in 20 years. Vandenberg won in a time of 2:11.08, while teammate Krista Daley finished 16th in the same event with a time of 2:20.90.'Coming off Trials, this is a different meet, but it's still Nationals,' Vandenberg said. 'I've never accomplished this before, so it's something I can add to my (swimming) experience, and I'm really happy with how the summer ended. I've really worked hard this past year.'Vandenberg, on Thursday morning, qualified for the finals in the 200m freestyle after finishing in 12th place in the preliminary heats with a time of 2:04.67.In other action on Thursday, senior-to-be Kim Scarborough and sophomore-to-be Courtney Iversen swam in the 400m Individual Medley Relay. Scarborough finished 30th in a time of 5:03.44, while Iversen finished 32nd in a time of 5:04.33.Complete results can be found at
