Carl Acosta Named Second Team Preseason All-American

BERKELEY - Senior Carl Acosta has been named a preseason second team All-American by College Soccer News. Acosta, a forward from Fair Oaks, Calif., led last year's Golden Bears with nine goals and was second on the team with three assists.In 2003, Acosta was selected to the All-Pac-10 first team as well as the All-Far-West second team. Acosta's 2003 totals placed him fifth in overall Pac-10 scoring with nine goals, four of which came as game-winners. Acosta also was sixth in Pac-10 overall point standings, with 21.Additionally, College Soccer News selected California at No. 20 in its 2004 preseason national rankings. Last year, the Golden Bears advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, their third trip to the playoffs in as many years. The Bears ended 2003 with an 11-9-2 mark.The 2004 Bears kick off their season on Sept. 1 with a 2 p.m. match against Sacramento State at Edwards Stadium.For a look at the complete top 30 rankings, click here.
