Pac-10 Coaches Pick Beavers Eighth

The Oregon State women's soccer team was picked to finish eighth in the Pacific-10 in a poll of conference coaches released Tuesday.League coaches predicted UCLA will defend its conference crown, as the Bruins totaled seven first-place votes and 75 points overall.Stanford was second with 67 points and two first-place tallies, while Arizona State received one first-place vote and 65 points.OSU (25 points) was picked ahead of Washington State (21 points) and Oregon (11), and just behind Arizona (29) in seventh.The Beavers open their season with home contests against San Diego State at 5 p.m., Aug. 27, and a 1 p.m., tilt with Cal-Santa Barbara on Aug. 29.The Beavers finished sixth in 2003 with a program-best 3-5-1 record in league play and a 7-11-2 mark overall after being picked eighth.Points were awarded on a basis of nine for a first-place vote, eight for second, and so on; coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
