Five Gymnasts Earn Scholastic All-American Honors

Five Oregon State gymnasts were among the student-athletes recognized on the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches' Scholastic All-American Team, which was announced Wednesday.Representing the Beavers on the squad are Keegan Fitzgerald, Chrissy Lamun, Lindsay Nelson, Christa Piazza and Thérèse Videan. A gymnast must have maintained a 3.50 grade point average for the entire 2003-2004 school year to be named to the team. Nelson and Piazza have been recognized as Scholastic All-Americans for the third consecutive year. Piazza earned a 3.77 grade point average during her junior year, while Nelson posted a 3.63 GPA in her fourth year at Oregon State. Both are exercise and sport science majors. For Lamun and Videan, 2004 marks their second consecutive Scholastic All-American honor. Lamun, a general science major and second team Pacific-10 All-Academic pick, recorded a 3.81 GPA as a sophomore. A business administration major, Videan earned a 3.53 GPA during her junior year. As a freshman, Fitzgerald carried a 3.97 GPA to earn her first Scholastic All-American honor. She's an exercise and sport science major. Since 1984, Oregon State gymnasts have combined for 66 NACGC academic awards.
