Kristen Caverly Finishes 17th In Olympic Games 200 Meter Back

Athens, Greece - Kristen Caverly (Stanford junior in 2004-05) finished 17th overall during the heats of the 200 meter back at the 2004 Olympics on Thursday with time of 2:15.34, just missing qualifying for the semifinals by one position, finishing .33 seconds behind 16th-place finisher Sanja Jovanovic of Croatia (2:15.01). Caverly was sixth in Heat 4, which also included Jovanovic.Former Stanford swimmer Jenny Thompson (1991-95 at Stanford) and Tara Kirk (2000-04 at Stanford) are still scheduled to participate for Team USA over the final two days of the Olympic swimming competition, which is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, August 21. Thompson begins competition in the 50 free on Friday in the heats and semis of the event with the finals slated for Saturday. Thompson is also expected to swim fly for Team USA in Saturday's 4x100 medley relay final. Kirk is expected to swim the breaststroke leg for the Americans' 4x100 medley relay team in the heats on Friday.
