UW and Washington National Golf Club Extend Contract

Seattle - Washington National Golf Club, one of the state's premier golf facilities, and the University of Washington athletic department have agreed to a five-year contract extension through 2010. The renewal of the contract will continue to provide the athletic department and the Husky golf teams with unique privileges to several of Washington National's amenities and services.Recognized as 'Home of the Huskies' and Washington's nationally-ranked men's and women's golf teams, Washington National Golf Club can now mark over four years of support for the Huskies.'It's been a pleasure working with the athletic department and the golf teams over the last four years and we are extremely excited about extending that relationship,' said Ryan Whitney, General Manager at Washington National Golf Club. 'Our guests and UW fans will continue to enjoy the popular University theme that characterizes the Club.'In the first four years of the Club's operation, it hosted the NCAA Women's Division I Championship and the Men's Division I West Regional Championship.'The relationship between the Husky athletic department and Washington National Golf Club has been a very successful partnership and we are proud to extend that relationship,' said first-year Husky athletic director Todd Turner. 'Our golf programs have benefited tremendously from everything Washington National has to offer. The tireless efforts of the staff at Washington National's made the NCAA women's championship and men's regional tournament very successful events. The unique collegiate theme that Washington National adopted has been great exposure for our overall athletic program. We look forward to developing this relationship even more in the future as Washington National continues its grow into one of the region's top public golf facilities.'The Washington golf teams will continue to have exclusive access to the west end of the driving range. This area contains a large natural grass tee with portable cover, two greens used for chipping and putting and a new 7,000-square-foot putting green.At Washington National a Husky flag waves prominently at the end of the range and a large decorative landscaped 'W' greets the eye of those practicing on the east end. As another tribute towards collegiate golf, Washington National's cart fleet includes 65 carts named after Husky Legends and current head coaches and 10 color-coded and logo-branded representing the Pac-10 schools.'It is very common that we receive calls from guests requesting a certain school's cart,' Whitney said.
