Kim Taylor's Golden Goal Lifts UW Women to Soccer Victory

SEATTLE - Junior forward Kim Taylor scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime Sunday, leading the Washington women to a 2-1 victory over 18th-ranked Ohio State and their third straight Husky/Nike Invitational championship at Husky Soccer Field.Taylor, who assisted on Tina Frimpong's game-winning goal in Friday's 2-1 win over No. 9 Penn State, was voted the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the tournament. She missed nearly the entire first half after being struck in the nose by a Buckeye player. Taylor returned to the lineup to start the second half and converted her only shot of the tournament eight minutes into overtime.The Huskies (2-0-0)were declared champions of the 10th-annual Husky/Nike Invitational as the lone undefeated team. Washington was the only un-ranked participant in the field that included No. 6 Portland, No. 9 Penn State and No. 18 Ohio State.Penn State won Sunday's first game, defeating Portland by a 2-1 tally. That was the Pilots' first loss in Husky Invitational play. Portland competed in all 10 UW tournaments, compiling a 18-1-1 record while winning the Invitational four times.
