Pac-10 Mines Olympic Gold

Sept. 1, 2004

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Current and former Pac-10 athletes accounted for 16 gold medals in the just concluded Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. That total would trail only four countries (the United States, Russia, China, and Australia) if the Conference were considered a nation. Pac-10 athletes also earned 17 silver and 12 bronze for a total of 45 Olympic medals, an amount surpassed by only five nations.
