UW's Kim Taylor honored by Soccer Buzz magazine

NEW YORK - Junior Kim Taylor, who played a part in both game-winning goals last weekend for the Washington women's soccer team, was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week.Taylor scored the game-winning goal in overtime Sunday on her only shot of the weekend. Her 99th-minute golden goal, from 35 yards out, lifted Washington to a 2-1 victory over 18th-ranked Ohio State.She missed nearly the entire first half of Sunday's game after being accidentally hit in the nose by a Buckeye player during the second minute. Taylor returned to play the entire second half and overtime.Taylor now has five game-winning goals during her career, a figure thatranks eighth in the school record book.The junior forward was voted the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Husky/Invitational after leading UW to the tournament championship.Taylor assisted on Tina Frimpong's game-winning goal Friday as the Huskies upset No. 8 Penn State 2-1. That was her 14th career assist, moving her into the No. 5 spot among all-time Huskies.Washington (2-0) was unranked in the preseason polls, but received national recognition after the impressive opening weekend. The Huskies are ranked 22nd by Soccer Buzz and No. 15 by Soccer America.The Huskies return to action Friday (Sept. 3) at home against No. 8 Tennessee. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field. The Lady Vols (1-0) also had a player honored by Soccer Buzz. UT defender Keeley Dowling was selected to the Elite Team of the Week after scoring a golden goal in a 4-3 victory over Duke.Friday's game is the final home appearance for UW in the month of September. The Huskies embark on a 10-game road trip before returning to Seattle to host USC on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
