Armstrong Lifts No. 21 UW Over No. 5 UConn In Battle of the Huskies

STORRS, Conn. - In a battle of East and West Coast Huskies, a goal by senior forward Casey Armstrong in the 12th minute of the match would be all Washington needed, as the 21st-ranked UW men's soccer team shutdown No. 5 Connecticut, 1-0, at Morrone Stadium, Saturday evening.Armstrong scored at the 11:20 mark, a goal assisted by fellow senior C.J. Klaas. UW junior goalkeeper Chris Eylander made four saves, thwarting 12 shots from the UConn offense. Eylander recorded his second shutout in as many games as Washington has yet to allow a goal this season. UW improved to 2-0 on the year and continues its six-game season opening road trip at No. 2 St. John's (1-0) on Mon., Sept. 6, at 5 p.m. PT. UConn's record fell to 0-2.Armstrong's goal came on one of just two UW shots in the first half. The Huskies recorded a total of six shots in the game. Freshman forward Ely Allen was the only Husky to take more than one shot and finished the game with two.Washington ended up with the advantage on corner kicks, taking nine including eight in the second half. UConn took just two corners. Connecticut goalkeeper Geoffrey Anatole made four saves.
