Men's Soccer Loses to Notre Dame 2-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - Notre Dame's Justin McGeeney's score in the 49th minute gave the Fighting Irish a 2-1 win over Oregon State on Friday afternoon in men's soccer action at Indiana's Hoosier Classic. OSU fell to 1-1 overall as Notre Dame claimed its season-opener.McGeeney scored the game-winning goal with a cross from Notre Dame's Nate Norman.Five minutes into the first half, OSU's Chris Murphy headed the ball in with a cross from Robbie Findley to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead.A line drive shot from Notre Dame's Jack Stewart in the 36th minute made it a 1-1 tie.'In the last 20 minutes of the game, I though we had a lot of chances,'OSU head coach Dana Taylor said. 'We missed a chance to score in the six yard box with one minute left in the game.'We came out strong in the first 15 minutes of the game and we played well,' Taylor said. 'The last 30 minutes we absorbed a lot. We presented too deep, took too much pressure from the other team.'In the second half, Notre Dame hit the cross bar twice, as did two OSU shots.OSU keeper Jason Mariner made five saves as Notre Dame outshot OSU 15-4, including 11-1 in the first half. 'I am proud of the way the guys played in the second half,' Taylor said. 'We have to learn from our mistakes; we are making poor choices.
