No. 10 Cal volleyball wins Houston Tournament with 3-0 victory over Houston

HOUSTON, TX - The No. 10 ranked Cal women's volleyball team (4-0) continued its impressive run in regular-season tournament play, defeating host Houston, 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-26), Sunday at the Houston Tournament. The Golden Bears have now captured 18 consecutive tournament matches since the 2002 season and have won six straight tournament titles. Cal had upended No. 14 Kansas State, 3-0, Friday night in the first round of the tournament and Maryland, 3-0, Saturday.In Sunday's victory over Houston, the Bears were led by junior middle hitter Alicia Powers and sophomore middle hitterAmanda Fox, with 12 kills apiece. Powers had an outstanding hitting percentage of .400 with 12 kills and only two errors in 25 attempts.Other top performers for Cal were sophomore libero Jillian Davis and sophomore setter Samantha Carter. Davis finished with a team-high 16 digs and Carter had 37 assists and hit .562 with nine kills with no errors in 16 attempts.Kelly McAnelly led Houston with 14 kills.The Bears will next play host to the 2004 Golden Bear Invitational, Sept. 9-11 at Haas Pavilion. On Thursday, Sept. 9, No. 15 ranked Texas A&M will face No. 16 UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 10, No. 10 Cal plays UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m., and on Saturday,
