Pac-10 Football Players Of The Week Named

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Tailback Reggie Bush of USC, cornerback Antoine Cason of Arizona and punter Kyle Basler of Washington State have been named Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.Bush, a sophomore from Spring Valley, Calif., made the big plays on offense in USC's 24-13 win against Virginia Tech in the BCA Football Classic. Bush tied a school-record with three touchdown catches as he accounted for all of USC's touchdowns on scoring receptions for 35, 53 and 29 yards. For the game, he had five receptions for 127 yards (25.4), and added 27 yards rushing, 60 yards on punt returns and 44 yards on kickoff returns for 258 all-purpose yards.Cason, a true freshman from Long Beach, Calif., made a splash in leading Arizona's defense to a 21-3 win against Northern Arizona, making for a successful debut for new head coach Mike Stoops. Cason, getting the start as a freshman, had a game-high 13 tackles, 12 solo, including one tackle for loss, forced two fumbles and intercepted a pass. The Arizona defense limited Northern Arizona to 280 yards total offense and forced four turnovers.Basler, a junior from Elma, Wash., played a key role in Washington State's season-opening 21-17 win at New Mexico. Basler punted seven times for a 47.0-yard average and had an outstanding net average of 44.0 yards. He had a long boot of 59 yards.Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were running backs J.J. Arrington of California, Mike Bell of Arizona and Manuel White of UCLA, receiver Trandon Harvey of Washington State and quarterback Derek Anderson of Oregon State. Also nominated on defense were linebackers Trent Bray of Oregon State and Spencer Havner of UCLA, defensive backs Alex Teems of Washington State and Ryan Guiterrez of California and tackle Mike Patterson of USC. Kicker Justin Medlock of UCLA was nominated for special teams play.
