THIS WEEK -- The USC women's soccer team (2-2) travels to Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend for the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. The Women of Troy will face Mississippi State (2-1-1) on Friday (Sept. 10) at 5:30 p.m. Eastern and No. 8 Tennessee (1-1-1) on Sunday (Sept. 12) at 2 p.m.RANKINGS -- Tennessee is ranked No. 8 by Soccer America (as of Aug. 31), No. 12 by Soccer Times (Aug. 31) and No. 18 by Soccer Buzz. USC and Mississippi State are not ranked.WEEKEND RECAP -- USC split its home matches with a 2-1 loss to Hawaii and a 3-2 overtime win against Rutgers. Jocelyn Hein scored USC's lone goal against Hawaii, but Gabrielle Bohlman's goal at 47:56 proved to be the game-winner for the Rainbow Wahine. In Sunday's match with Rutgers, U.S. U-19 National Team midfielder Carli Lloyd scored twice for the Scarlet Knights, but the Women of Troy answered both times. USC midfielder Rosa Anna Tantillo registered a two-goal performance, including the game-winning-goal in overtime (105:31).ROSA ANNA TANTILLO -- Sophomore midfielder Rosa Anna Tantillo (San Diego/La Jolla HS) earned 2003 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors after leading the team in goals (seven), points (16) and game-winning goals (three). This season, she leads the team with three goals and seven points (3-1=7). On Sept. 5 against Rutgers, she scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in USC's 3-2 win. She registered a five-point game with two goals and an assist in a 3-0 upset win last year on Sept. 26 at No. 18 Santa Clara.MISSISSIPPI STATE NOTES -- Mississippi State is 2-1-1 on the season after a 1-0 loss last weekend to St. Louis and a 2-2 tie with Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Head coach Neil MacDonald is in his first season at Mississippi State. Junior forward Betty Ann Casey has three goals on the season and seven points (3-1=7). This is the first ever meeting between the two schools.TENNESSEE NOTES -- Tennessee is 1-1-1 on the season after a 2-1 loss last weekend at No. 15 Washington and a 0-0 tie at Washington State. Head coach Angela Kelly is 59-26-5 in her fifth season at Tennessee. Genna Gorman leads the team with two goals and five points (2-1=5). USC defeated Tennessee, 1-0, on Sept. 3, 2001, in Provo, Utah, in the only meeting between the two schools.McALISTER FIELD -- After sharing the practice field with the football team, the USC women's soccer team moved to its own facility prior to the 1998 season. The team split games between McAlister Field and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before playing exclusively at McAlister Field, located on the corner of 30th and Hoover, prior to the 2002 season. USC boasts a 22-8-4 (.706) record at McAlister Field.LAST SEASON -- In 2003, the Women of Troy went 9-8-4 overall and tied for third in Pac-10 play with a 5-3-1 record. The Trojans made their sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, losing to Pepperdine (1-0) in the first round at UCLA.
