USC Defeats Mississippi State, 4-1, In Nonconference Action

LOS ANGELES -- Sophomore Rosa Anna Tantillo (San Diego/La Jolla HS) scored two goals within a span of 1:10 Friday as the USC Trojans defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 4-1, in nonconference action at the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. Tantillo, the 2003 Pac-10 Conference Freshman of the Year, scored two goals for the second time in as many games and now leads the team with five goals and 11 points (5-1=11).

USC redshirt freshman goalkeeper Veronica Simonton (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) made two saves in her first career start to earn the win for the Women of Troy.

Tantillo scored the first goals of the game at 19:34 and 20:44 for the Women of Troy. With a 2-0 lead at halftime, USC scored twice in the second half on goals by Tina Sutorius and Shannon Cross (penalty kick). Mississippi State's Jennifer Turpin scored the lone goal at 81:59 for the Bulldogs.
